The Annual Dinner- Joyfully Leading Lives to Blossom

This year the Junior League of Long Beach celebrated 85 years of developing the potential of women, promoting voluntarism and making an impact on our community.  Not only did we recognize our anniversary, but we had many achievements to add to our rich history.

2016 – 2017 Accomplishments

  • Recruited and trained 33 new members

  • Updated our mini-Kids in the Kitchen series to offer a 3 class series in the fall and spring.

  • Featured in all local news publications.

  • Hosted a successful conference for regional Junior Leagues with nearly 100 attendees from the southwest.

  • Educated our members on the state legislative process with a personal Q&A time with Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell.

  • Held several fundraising challenges that we took on and surpassed goals.

  • Taught 70 5th grade girls about self-esteem in an all-day Saturday Especially Me event.

  • Developed new leadership trainings to support newer members.

  • Presented to the AJLI Fall Leadership Conference attendees about JLLB’s work with the Long Beach Violence Prevention Plan, titled “Getting a Seat at the Table”

  • Celebrated our 85th anniversary with a history lesson at each of our monthly meetings.

  • Continued to diversify our fundraising efforts, through Giving Tuesday, Shopping Boutiques, Lunafest Film Festival and Pillars of the Community.

  • Served 700+ attendees to the 12th Annual Kids in the Kitchen event.

  • Trained members on self-defense, diversity and inclusion, and poverty.

  • Taught leadership, communication, and relationship skills to 5th to 8th graders at Roosevelt Elementary and Avalon School.

  • Participated in the Belmont Shore Holiday Parade.

  • Volunteered in the community at the Blue Martini Ball, the LB Library Foundation fundraiser, the Growing Experience, Beach Streets, and Register to Vote campaigns.

Special recognition for strong commitment to the Junior League of Long Beach mission went to the following:
