Welcome to the Junior League of Long Beach!
The Junior League of Long Beach was established in 1931 by a small group of women who were brought together by their desire and commitment to serve their community. That legacy continues today with the more than 375 women that make up our league membership. We welcome all women who are committed to our Mission and recognize that the League will continue to flourish through our members’ diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences. We are better together.
As we observe our 90th anniversary this year, we will celebrate and honor all of the women who came before us to make the League a trusted community partner. Throughout our history we have developed, supported, and launched more than 60 projects in the community making positive impact on the welfare of greater Long Beach children and their families. Some of these memorable projects include Casa youth shelter which provides emergency shelter to youth in crisis, Rancho Los Cerritos which provides educational opportunities for school-age children, Bethune transitional center providing services to homeless students, The Children’s Dental Clinic and Literary Women’s Festival of Authors. The JLLB is also a charter member of the Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force, partnering with law enforcement and other organizations to eradicate human trafficking.
In honor of our 90th anniversary the Junior League of Long Beach invested $90,000 into the community by supporting three of these projects. We gifted $30,000 for the creation of The Lounge at Billie Jean King Main Library, $30,000 to Rancho Los Cerritos to restore the historic herb garden and kick start a larger capital improvement campaign and $30,000 to Casa Youth Shelter to upgrade their kitchen. We look forward to working with these and other community partners in our efforts to increase confidence and self-awareness among youth through character development and life skills through our program Especially Me! and our Kids in the Kitchen activities that focus on teaching children and their families about healthy eating, cooking, gardening, and wellness.
However, what makes the League unique and why I chose to become a member, is our focus on providing a space for members to learn and grow, empowering them to take on new challenges, be leaders in their community and be catalysts for change. Our annual fundraiser, the LUNAFEST film festival, was chosen to highlight the unique contributions of women by showcasing works by, for and about women.
Thank you taking the time to visit the Junior League website and learn how we are transforming the lives of women and children in Long Beach.
