President’s Message

Welcome to the Junior League of Long Beach!

As President for the 2017-18 League year, I am honored to serve this organization and its members.  We have a distinguished legacy of service to the Long Beach community.  We provide outstanding women leaders who are a force for change and disrupt convention.  I encourage you to learn more about the Junior League of Long Beach by exploring our website.

For 86 years, we have been an important presence in the Long Beach community by promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.   We have helped establish the Children’s Dental Health Clinic, Casa Youth Shelter, the Bethune Transitional Center, and The Volunteer Center, among many other community assistance organizations and programs.  Most importantly, we are a women’s leadership organization.

Today, our over 400 members promote self-esteem through a number of programs and community events such as Especially Me!, Kids in the Kitchen, and Confidence & Me.  We currently work with many community partners such as the Boys and Girls Club, The Growing Experience, and the Long Beach Unified School District.  We are also a community stakeholder in the City of Long Beach Violence Prevention Plan.  Last year, we logged over 1,000 volunteer hours and raised over $86,000 to continue training of our members and impacting the community.

At the heart of our mission is training our members.  Our training opportunities include public speaking, leadership development, fundraising, financial administration, event planning and management, and working closely with the children of our community.  Many of our members use their training to become civic leaders and non-profit innovators in Long Beach.

Whether you are considering membership, looking to partner with us on a project or event, or interested in making a financial gift to support our mission, please join us as we continue to develop leaders and create positive change in the Long Beach community.

Warm regards,

Christie Bettendorf
