I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Voula found herself hearing great stories about community outreach programs and volunteering from her Seattle friends when they had joined the local Junior League. Knowing she would be moving to Long Beach when she married her husband, Voula made it a priority to look up the local Junior League chapter in Long Beach. She quickly realized the few friends she knew in California didn’t have that much free time and she really didn’t know much about Long Beach, so Voula joined the Junior League in 2013 to get to know the Long Beach community and to volunteer for service projects since she always loved to volunteer in any way she could. Looking forward to joining, all she would think about was “it’ll be worth it even if I make one good friend”. Unintentionally it became much more than that.
In the six years since joining the JLLB, she has received so much more out of the Junior League than she ever thought possible. The Junior League of Long Beach became more than just meeting friends, Voula quickly realized it was a great group of like-minded women who wanted to network and even make friendships, but to also volunteer and give back to the Long Beach community. Voula has served on the Nominating Committee, Arrangements Committee and served on and chaired both the Kids In the Kitchen Committee and Leadership Training Committees. Currently she is serving for the first time on the JLLB Board of Directors as Membership Vice-President.
In addition to the Junior League, she participates and leads Team “Baba”, a walk team for the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of her Baba (“Dad” in Greek). She is also heavily involved in the Greek community and serves on the Folk Dance Festival Board of Trustees under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of San Francisco and has served as Director of Competition for twelve years for the actual folk dancing event.
Voula holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Washington. Her professional experience includes over fifteen years of working in experiential marketing, event logistics and production. In her free time, she loves being outside and you can find her hiking new trails, being near the water, exploring a new beach, watching the sunset, running or working on a home remodeling project with her husband. Always a Seattleite and UW Husky fan at heart, she officially now calls Long Beach home.
