THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF
LONG BEACH SPONSORS
DRAWING FOR A “RECESSION-BUSTING BASKET”
(February 11, 2010, LONG BEACH, Calif.) – The Junior League of Long Beach
is hosting an opportunity drawing on March 27 for one giant item. They are
calling it a “Recession-Busting Basket.”
“Essentially it contains all the items we would normally have in a silent
auction all in one prize,” said JLLB President Jennifer Blanchard.
The JLLB members are soliciting businesses for donations to include in
the basket. They expect the value of the basket to reach nearly $10,000 by the
time the winning name is drawn on March 27, 2010.
“We are well over the $2,000 value we promised,” Blanchard said. “So far
we have a Gateway Netbook, a two-night stay in Las Vegas at Treasure Island
with tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s Mystere, an iPod, Lakers tickets, Dodgers
tickets, a Sunset Flying-Youth Adventure Flight, Toyota Grand Prix of Long
Beach tickets and more. We are aiming to have a basket that you could use all
year and never have to buy a thing – gas cards, store cards, restaurant gift
certificates.”
The drawing festivities will be held March 27, 2010 from 2 p.m. -4 p.m..
Sponsored by The Grand Long Beach Event Center on Willow Street and Grand
Avenue, there will be light refreshments and a no-host bar.
“The winner does not need to attend, but we will have door prizes that only
those in attendance can win,” said drawing chair Leslie Smith. “The main door
prize is a $500 Tahitian black pearl ring. It is set in 14-karat white gold
with 12 single cut diamonds around it. But you have to buy a drawing ticket to
get into the event.”
The tickets are available for $20 each or six tickets for $100. Proceeds
raised go toward the League’s mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the
potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and
leadership of trained volunteers. To view all the items in the basket, visit
www.JLLB.org.
To request a ticket, call or e-mail the League office before March 22 at
