State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC)

What is SPAC?

The State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) of the Junior Leagues of California is a non-partisan advocacy and education organization charged with promoting legislation favorable to its member Leagues' community projects and focus areas and tracking all legislation that would affect those projects and areas. SPAC celebrated 35 years of advocacy in 2006.

California's SPAC is composed of two delegates from each of the 16 member Junior Leagues in California, representing over 12,000 voting women and over 50 community projects in the areas of Education, Family Support, Health and Violence Prevention that are supported by nearly $2 million in project funds, grants, and gifts.

SPAC delegates:
  • Track legislation relevant to Junior League projects and focus areas

  • Advocate for specific legislation relevant to Junior Leagues' issues and projects

  • Coordinate the exchange of information from community-based League projects to policy makers in Sacramento and Washington D.C. as well as locally

  • Attend working conferences for discussion of and voting on SPAC's position on relevant legislation, as well as training and networking activities

  • Educate Junior League members about legislation that affects League projects and efforts.

  • Contribute to the Administration of the SPAC organization.
